Methodology for the estimation of the increase in time loss due to future increase in tropical cyclone intensity in Japan
2009
Published version of an article from the journal: Climatic Change. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s10584-009-9725-9 The present paper develops a methodology for estimating the risks and consequences of possible future increases in tropical cyclone intensities that would allow policy makers to relatively quickly evaluate the cost of different mitigation strategies. The methodology simulates future tropical cyclones by modifying the intensity of historical tropical cyclones between the years 1978 and 2007. It then uses a Monte Carlo Simulation to obtain the expected number of hours that a certain area can expect to be affected by winds of a giv…
Livelihood impacts of solid waste management in informal settlements of Windhoek, Namibia.
2014
Master thesis development management- University of Agder, 2014 Solid waste management (SWM) is a growing global concern, especially in urban areas and even more so in urban areas of developing countries. Informal settlement areas, slums, face grave challenges of inadequate municipal service delivery. The impact of solid waste management is related to impacts caused by lacking water and sanitation, through the common issue of public health. Service delivery varies among the residents within a city, and reflects the historical background and the current priorities of the municipality. Livelihood opportunities in the informal settlements are shaped by the organisation of urban space, setting …

Boligstrukturen i norske byer og tettsteder i 1970
2009
Kandyan forest gardens(KFG's) for sustainable development
2013
Master thesis in development management – University of Agder 2013 The Kandyan Forest Gardens (KFGs) Has been a basis for not only the stable agricultural livelihood of the community living in Tropical hills of Sri Lanka but also for the maintenance of biodiversity and equilibrium of the environment in these regions for an excitedly long period. Over the last several decades various social, economic and political changes have been brought about in these KFGG. The direct cause behind the above modifications was the forest conservation and management policies implemented in the area in question. These policies were put into effect with a view to keeping the peripheral community away from the …
Growing significance of safe tourism during pandemic.
2020
Interaction of valproic acid and some analogues with microsomal epoxide hydrolase.
1992
Abstract Valproic acid (VPA) and its analogues valpromide (VPM), valproyl-Coenzyme A (VP-CoA) and valproyl-ethylester (VPE) were examined as potential inhibitors of microsomal epoxide hydrolase (mEHb) using styrene-7,8-oxide (STO) and benzo(a)pyrene-4,5-oxide (BPO) as enzyme substrates. The effect of each potential inhibitor was examined using mEHb from rat liver, human livers (from a child, woman and man) and from human placenta. Of the compounds tested, only VPM (2 mM) expressed significant inhibition of mEHb activity with a maximum inhibition of 49%, 48%, 35% and 33% for liver microsomes from the child, woman, man and rat, respectively, using STO (2 mM) as substrate. Human placenta mEHb …

Values, ideological attitudes and patriotism
2014
We tested a series of discriminant associations, investigating how dimensions of patriotism (i.e. blind and constructive) differently relate to value orientations, and to ideological attitudes such as Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) and Social Dominance Orientation (SDO). Using an Italian student sample (N = 146) we found that blind patriotism correlated positively with tradition and negatively with universalism, whilst constructive patriotism correlated negatively with tradition and positively with universalism. Both RWA and SDO correlated negatively with universalism, whilst only RWA was associated with security and tradition and only SDO related positively to power and self-direction. …
